Environment Studies

Here is a set of landscape color/value studies.  I've found that doing these exercises is good for maintaining my color sense and also exploring how other artists achieve similar results.

Sometimes it's also helpful to block out an environment in 3D and then execute a paintover to fully visualize the end result.  Here's a more recent value paintover of a quick 3d mockup:
